Behind the Studio

Hi, I'm Bethany—the artist behind Ember Chapel Studio.

I've been filling sketchbooks for as long as I can remember.

As a kid, I dreamed of becoming an artist, but I spent many years following a different path. After college, I found myself immersed in academia before eventually realizing it wasn't where I was meant to be. That realization led me somewhere unexpected: graphic design.

Over the next four years, I built a career as a freelance designer, learning how to communicate ideas visually and refining the creative skills that would become the foundation for my work today. I loved the craft of design, but over time I realized something was missing. My days were spent bringing other people's ideas to life, and I found myself longing to create artwork through my own lens—to paint what moved me, explore my own ideas, and make work that didn't begin with someone else's vision.

Through every season of life, I never stopped sketching or painting. Those simple moments reminded me why I fell in love with art in the first place.

At 31, I decided to stop treating personal artwork as something I'd return to "someday" and finally make it the center of my creative life.

Ember Chapel Studio is the result of that decision—a creative home for original paintings, illustrations, and surface pattern designs inspired by seasonal living, old-world artistry, and the beauty of everyday objects.

Whether I'm painting with oils, sketching by hand, creating digital illustrations, or developing new collections, I'm always chasing the same thing: creating work that feels thoughtful, timeless, and quietly meaningful.

I'm so glad you're here!
